Certification

FSC

Forest Stewardship Council - certification ensuring wood and paper products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organization established in 1993 that promotes responsible management of the world's forests. FSC certification is the gold standard for ensuring wood and paper products come from well-managed forests.

FSC certification ensures:

  • Forests are managed to protect biodiversity and ecosystems
  • Indigenous peoples' and workers' rights are respected
  • Forest management maintains economic viability
  • No conversion of natural forests to plantations
  • No use of hazardous chemicals

There are three types of FSC labels:

  • FSC 100%: Made entirely from FSC-certified forests
  • FSC Mix: Mix of FSC-certified and controlled wood
  • FSC Recycled: Made from 100% recycled materials

For furniture shoppers, FSC certification provides assurance that solid wood products support sustainable forestry rather than contributing to deforestation.
