The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
GOTS certification covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading, and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers. Products labeled "organic" must contain at least 95% certified organic fibers.
The certification prohibits the use of toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, and GMO technology. All chemical inputs must meet strict environmental and toxicological criteria.
